Danilo Morais, more widely known by his fans as Danny Kolk, has been making waves as he represents Brazil in the house music scene. He was recently one-fourth of the ‘Team Brazil’ takeover at Dirtybird Campout East Coast (Florida, USA), alongside other well-known artists Ciszak, Bruno Furlan, and DJ Glen. His productions stand out, with their combination of moody & synthetic elements, inspired by some of his favorite artists. He notes Claude Vonstroke, Billy Kenny, and Maximono as some of his biggest influences. With its release on acclaimed record label, Dirtybird (who just won DJ Mag’s highly envied ‘Best Label’ for the second year in a row), his track ‘Doctor’ reached Beatport’s top 100 releases, garnering a large and loyal audience. Following this, Kolk embarked on his first US tour, the ‘Call the Doctor’ tour, hitting cities such as Chicago, Miami, and our very own city of Tempe with up-and-comer VNSSA. VNSSA, a super chill girl with short black curly hair performed with a vibrant and dynamic sound. Kolk’s and VNSSA’s sets matched well with each other and their show was tons of fun, with everyone groovin’ and vibin’.
I had the opportunity to chat with Danny about the tour and the conversation went as follows.
SL: What was your favorite venue/show on the your?
DK: The MID Chicago was insane! I played after Will Clarke, and the crowd was crazy!
SL: What’s been your favorite city to visit in the US?
DK: Chicago will always be the city of my heart! I was very curious to explore California.
SL: Do you have any crazy or funny fan stories from the tour?
DK: There have been many fun times, I will name two of them! The first was in Chicago, during my presentation, I went to the crowd and started dancing, hahaha, and the second moment was at Myth Night Club in Jacksonville, during my presentation, some people started doing a little train, so I went to have fun with all of them! These two moments are recorded in photos and videos! It was a very special moment.
SL: How are shows/events different in the US compared to Brazil?
DK: I believe that in both places all people are fun and crazy! I love to have fun during my presentations and in both places, I get lots of positive energy from people! The only difference I can see is the language hahahah!
SL: What was the best food you ate on tour? Were there any foods you got to eat while in the US that you can’t get in Brazil?
DK: I loved the pizza in Chicago! Very different from the pizza in Brazil, it was a unique flavor and I’m sure I’ll miss it.
SL: What was your experience like at Dirtybird Campout East in February?
DK: It was the best experience of my life! My first festival, I received a lot of love from all the fans, being close to all of them, playing football and finding all the djs I always admired was amazing! I will never forget this experience!
SL: Were there any shows in particular that you were nervous to play? Or were you nervous at all to come out here and tour?
DK: I get nervous at every gig! Anxious, the only thing that makes me lose this anxiety is when I see the smile on people’s faces! This tour was the fulfillment of a dream, and I will certainly come back again to spread joy to all!
SL: Who would be your dream musical collaboration? (Dead or alive?)
DK: There are many producers that I have as a reference, and I hope one day to be prepared to work with them! They are: Walker & Royce, DJ Glen, Claude Vonstroke, Will Clarke, Bruno Furlan, and the list does not stop! Hahaha.
There you have it folks! Keep an eye out for releases coming soon, and if you see this guy on a lineup near you, don’t sleep on it!
